Paper Presentation Competition for Engineering students on 18th November 2017

 Paper presentation contest for engineering students was jointly organized by IEEE PES Kerala chapter and PES SBC TKMCE Kollam. The programme was conducted using the funds of PES member driven initiative scheme. The theme for the contest was ‘Smart grid for power distribution in smart cities’.

Hub level contest

The hub level competitions were held on 21st October 2017. The venue for Travancore hub was College of Engineering Adoor, venue for Kochi hub was Rajagiri school of Engineering & Technology Kochi and and venue for Malabar hub was Vimaljyothi engineering college Kannur. The hub level winners are

State level contest

The programme  started at 9.30 AM with welcome address by Prof. Reshna, IEEE SB Counselor, TKMCE Kollam. The presentations by the finalists started at 9.45 AM. Each team was given 15 minutes for presentation.  The judging panel consisted of three experts from the field of Power&Energy. The presentations were over by 3.30 pm. Lunch and refreshments were given to the participants.

PES Quiz 2017 Hub level and State level finals held on Nov 4th at TKM College of Engineering, Kollam

The IEEE PES Quiz 2017 Hub level and State level finals are conducted  at TKM College of Engineering, Kollam on Nov 4th. Winners from 46 Colleges participated in the Hub level finals.Three toppers from each Hub after the Hub level contest are selected as the Winners at Hub level. The above 9 winners and 20 remaining toppers of the Hub level contest are selected for the State level prelims. The mark scored for the Hub level & State level prelims are added and top 10 from the 29 are selected for the on-stage finals.

88 students from 46 Colleges participated at the Hub level finals.

The inaugural Session started at 9.50 am. Meeting started with a silent prayer. Prof Reshma read out the IEEE Code of Ethics. Welcome offered by Ms Sruthi, Vice- chair of TKMCE. Prof Muhammed Kasim presided over the function. Er A G Hareendralal inaugurated the Quiz contest. Asif Naushad, Section SR felicitated in the function. Prof Bijukumar offered vote of Thanks.

23519276_1425593534224861_876761647381746083_nAfter tea break, Hub level finals started at 11.00 am. Time duration was 25 minutes. A skill development program & an IEEE awareness program followed.

29 top scores including 9 hub level winners were announced and they were taken for the state level preliminary quiz contest & lunch break was given to others.

Ten State level finalists were announced at 2.15 pm and the on-stage finals started at 2.30 pm. The finals ended around at 4.30 pm and tea break followed.

Sandra J of TKMCE Kollam & Rohit R of Amal Jyothi Engg College Kanjirappally stood first, Jairam R Prabhu of Model Engg College Eklm & Daniel Mohan of Jyothi Engg College Thrissur bagged the second place and Jinan K V of GEC Sreekrishnapuram & Ajith V Krishna of College of Engg, Adoor for the third place.

Er A G Hareendralal, Prof Muhammed Kasim , Prof Bijukumar K , Prof Reshna, TKMCE SB Counselor and Prof K Bijuna Kunju supervised the event.  After the certificates and cash Prize were distributed, the programme came to a close at around 5.15 pm.

Energy Efficient Dream home contest for Engineering students on 7th October 2017

IEEE PES Kerala chapter in association with Energy Management centre (EMC) Kerala & PES SBC TKMCE Kollam, organized ‘Energy efficient dream home’ contest for engineering students.  The hub level contests were conducted on 7th October 2017.

The venue for Travancore hub was Bishop Jerome Institute Kollam, Venue for Kochi hub was Saintgits College of Engineering, Pathamuttom, Kottayam

39 teams from different engineering colleges registered for the contest in Kochi hub, 22 teams in Travancore hub and 12 teams in Malabar hub. The teams had to prepare and present their ideas and model of energy efficient dream home. The evaluation was based on design, improved use of terrain, materials used, energy efficient equipments, renewable energy, waste to energy, water harvesting, innovative/new concepts introduced. The judging panel was consisted of experts from the field of Power&Energy. The contest started at 9:30 a.m. The rules and regulations for contest were explained to the teams and Judging panel were introduced to the audience. Each team were allotted a time of 20 minutes for presentation and interaction. The presentations were over by 3:30p.m. in various hubs and the results were announced. The judges conveyed their comments and views on the presentations.

The winners are:

Kochi hub:

  1. Ajay Balan, Albin S Vayattattil,Marshal Tommy, Sharon Philip of Dept. of Civil engineering Viswajyothi College Of Engineering And Technology,Vazhakulam won the first prize.
  2. Naeema Abdul Gafoor, Sreeshma K.S, Varna Vishwan. T, Surya Gayathry Ratnan. K of Dept. of Civil engineering, Vidya Academy Of Science And Technology, Thalakkottukara were the runners up.
  3. Gisha Joseph, Jobin John Mathew, Arya T.R of Dept. of ECE, Mar Baselios Christian College of Engineering And Technology, Kuttikanam were in third place.
  4.  Jobin Jacob Peter& team from MACE Kothamangalam won the fourth place.

The prize money and certificates for winners were presented by Dr. Jaimol Thomas, Head, Dept. of EEE, Saintgits College of Engineering, Kottayam. Mr. Emil Ninan Skariah, IEEE PES Saintgits SB advisor presented the mementos to judging panel members.

State Level Seminar Contest organized by  PES Kerala Chapter and KSEB Engineers’ Association on 14 March 2017 at Thiruvananthapuram

The topic of the eighth seminar series was “Power System Harmonics: Sources, Issues and Mitigation”. The Seminar Series Competition  is  jointly  conducted by the KSEB Engineers’ Association and the IEEE Power and Energy Society, Kerala Chapter for the eighth year at District and State levels. The competition was open for final Year and pre- final year students of B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics and allied branches. All first prize and Second prize winners from district level participated.

Best Innovative Idea: Mr. Soumyajit Gangopadhyay and Mr. Aditya Kumar , NIT Calicut.

Dream Home Contest – Finals – 2016 on 4 March 2017 at Energy Management Centre Trivandrum  

This is the final of the Dream Home Contest conducted in 2016 at College Levels and Zone Levels.

This program was supported by Energy Management Centre, Kerala Government. They provided prize money for the winners too.
