Dr. Hermann Koch is IEEE Fellow and Chairman of IEEE PES Substations Committee Working Group of the GIS Book. In IEC he is Secretary of SC 17C High Voltage Switchgear Assemblies. In CIGRE he is member of the Strategic Advisory Group of SC B3 Substations. Currently he is Principal Expert of Standardization and gas-insulated high voltage system in Energy Transmission of Siemens.

Hermann Koch received his academic education at Technical University Darmstadt and New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ in 1986 in Electrical Engineering. His research work in the field of high voltages was concluded in 1990 with his doctoral thesis on partial discharge measurements for non-destructive testing. In 1991, he started his career with Siemens in Erlangen Germany at the headquarters of the power transmission division. In several responsibilities he was engaged in gas insulated technologies for HV circuit breaker, gas-insulated substations and transmission lines. Responsible for technical support in sales, development of gas-mixture technologies like GIL, business development for GIS and GIL and for coordination of Siemens standardization activities on Energy Transmission Division. He has published 150 technical papers and holds 31 patents in the field of gas insulated technology.

Energy Efficient Dream Home Contest 2017 Final on 27 January 2018 at Energy Management Centre, Thiruvananthapuram

The Finals of Dream Home Contest 2017 will be held on  Saturday 27th January 2018 at Energy Management Centre (EMC) , Sreekaryam, Trivandrum.
The contest will start at 10.00 am sharp. All candidates are requested to report by 9.30 am. The order of presentation will be based on lot. The programme is expected to be over by 4 pm.
The presentation time is 15 minutes plus 5 minutes discussions.
All candidates are requested to book their train/bus tickets based on the above mentioned timings.  All are requested to carry an ID proof from their respective Colleges. TA will be provided subject to the production of actual train/ bus tickets (one side ticket is sufficient).

One Day Workshop on ‘Execution of Successful Projects for B.Tech on 23 September 2017 at College of Engineering Chengannur.

The workshop was a one day event and the inauguration ceremony began with silent prayer followed by “IEEE Code of Ethics” administered by Mr. Adarsh Vijay, Secretary of IEEE, Student Branch of College of Engineering Chengannur.

Mr. Arun M, Chairman of IEEE PES SBC CEC welcomed the audience. The lamp was lit by all the dignitaries present there and the workshop was officially inaugurated by Dr. Sunil T T, Principal of College of Engineering, Attingal. Prof. Raju M, HOD of Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering Chengannur addressed the gathering.

The keynote was given by Prof. Biju K, Secretary & Treasurer of IEEE PES Kerala Chapter. Then the inauguration ceremony was brought to an end by the vote of thanks by Mr. Dennis Babu, Vice Chairman of IEEE PES SBC College of Engineering Chengannur.

Workshops were conducted separately, for four different branches of Engineering The instructors mainly spoke about the wide range of resources that could be used by students to prove their depth of knowledge and application levels. They were introduced to new software and applications that would help them give their projects a more professional and sophisticated makeover. They also enlightened students on how to plan their projects properly in order to produce expected results in the given time limit. The instructors also covered the areas students have to stress on to get their projects to stand out from the crowd and be worth presenting at any competitions. Students were briefed on the points to be kept in mind while choosing their projects.

Educational Talk on “Enhancing Communication & Leadership Skills through IEEE & PES”at St.Gitts Engineering College Kottayam on 17 Aug 2017

Er A. Suhair, Vice Chair, PES Kerala Chapter gave a professional talk on “Enhancing Communication & Leadership Skills through IEEE & PES” during the inauguration of PES Student Branch Chapter on 17 Aug 2017. The PES SB Chapter of St Gitts Engineering College, Kottayam was inaugurated by Prof V.K. Damodaran, and was attended by 26 students of the college.
