IEEE PES Kerala Chapter and IEEE PES WiP conducted Orion-a virtual technical festival, from 19th to 22nd June 2020.

         Engineering is a  field that evolves more dynamically than any other field of science. Technological advancements and ease in the information flow paved the way in the ever so faster development in the field in the last few decades. The competition and at the same time the sense of collectiveness is the key to a faster pace.


WiP IEEE PES Kerala Section came up with an initiative to bring up the engineering students in different areas through various items of competitions and quality assessments. Through a 3 day event, the students took part in various events and compete with each other for self-evaluation.


Based on the performance of the students, the respective SBs and individuals were awarded the championship and runner up titles.


Orion, 3-day event with 4 main categories namely, Category 1 Scribble which consisted of Blog, Idea pitching, Event report writing, Photo manipulation, Doodling, Pencil Drawing, and  Painting competition, Category 2  Unveil which consisted of  Mini/Main project, Video Presentation and Innovating Existing Technology, Category 3 Sketch which consisted of Poster designing, Logo designing, Ui/Ux designing and Webpage designing, Category 4 Connect which consisted of Quiz, Debate, Coding, Jam, Photography, Capture the flag, Treasure hunt and Mock Interview. A total of 22 no. of events were conducted spanning for 3 days.


The virtual inaugural ceremony for the virtual technical fest, Orion was on 18th June at 6 PM. The grand fest was inaugurated by Er. Frank Lambert, President, IEEE PES. The ceremony witnessed the presence of Dr. Jessica Bian, President-Elect, IEEE PES; Dr, Celia Shahnaz, R10 Rep, IEEE PES WiP, Er. Staji Wilson, Sub Regional Rep, IEEE PES WiP. The event was hosted on Cisco WebEx, also live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook channels of the IEEE PES Kerala Chapter.


Various events of different models were then conducted as per the previously prepared schedule and students across Kerala Section competed in the events. The event came to an end on 22nd June. The closing ceremony, conducted on 22nd June at 6 PM on Cisco WebEx witnessed the presence of Dr, Ruomei Li, Global Chair, IEEE PES WiP, and Dr. Mini Ulanat, Chairperson, IEEE WiE AG Kerala Section. The overall Championship was announced by the honorable guest, Dr, Rumei Li and the Individual winners by Dr. Boby Philip, Secretary IEEE PES Kerala Chapter. 

The overall championship was won by IEEE SB RSET followed by IEEE SB GECT and IEEE SB ASIET as first and second runners up respectively.

Individual champions who won the most points for their SBs were also honored with the individual championship. Varsha S of Government Engineering College, Idukki came on top followed by Alan James of Amal Jyothi College of Engineering and Akshara Bruno of Sree Chithra Thirunal College of Engineering.

The event came to an end by 8 PM.

Orion was an event successfully completed by the WiP IEEE PES Kerala Chapter with a core team of IEEE PES Kerala Chapter student members and the WiP representatives. The event had about 50 judges for 22 events with 668 number of participants and 86 student branch representatives.
