KSEB Seminar Series

IEEE PES Kerala Chapter organized a series of webinars in association with Engineers from KSEB Limited from 21st – 26th November 2020. The event named ‘Future Power Challenges: How the Public Sector Utilities are Gearing Up’ brought in expert engineers from KSEBL sharing their insights thoughts and ideas on the same. The event consisted of six webinars in total.

The first session of “Future Power Challenges: How the Public Sector Utilities are Gearing Up” was held on 21st November 2020 from 7-8 PM.  The first session began with an introductory speech about the webinar Series with experts from KSEB Ltd. by Prof. V. K. Damodaran –  Mentor & Advisor IEEE-PES Kerala Chapter, IEEE Life Senior Member. Er. Ajith Gopi, Vice-Chair, IEEE-PES delivered an introduction of the speaker of the session Er. S.S. Biju, Executive Engineer, TRANSGRID, Kottayam, KSEB Ltd. The session provided participants with vivid ideas on how to integrate renewable energy in the Kerala power system perspective.

The second webinar on ‘Changing Roles of Utilities‘ was held on 22nd November 2020 from 7-8 PM. The session was handled by Er. Pradeep B, Deputy Chief  Engineer ( With full powers of Chief Engineer) Planning & Commercial, KSEB Ltd. The Introductory speech was given by the chairman of IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, Er. Suhair A K. Er. Ajith Gopii, Vice-Chair, IEEE PES Kerala Chapter briefed about the speaker and the vote of thanks for the day was delivered by Dr. Bijuna Kunju (Chair, IEEE IAS Kerala Chapter). The session covered the evolving utilities that take up different roles in different scenarios

Er. Laiju M S, Asst. Executive Engineer, REES, KSEB Ltd. headed the third session of the webinar series on “Dam Top and floating solar projects of KSEB on 25th November from 7 PM to 8 PM. Dr. Shobha Manakkal

(Vice-Chair. IEEE PES Kerala Chapter) kicked off the session with her introductory speech. Er. Ajith Gopi, Vice-Chair, IEEE-PES Kerala Chapter introduced and welcomed the speaker. The session was concluded by Dr. Boby Philip with vote of thanks. The session offered notions on the much necessary topic of floating solar projects in general and the projects of the same type that KSEBL manage.

The fourth session of the webinar series “Utility PV Plants and EV initiatives of KSEB Ltd.” was held on November 26th from 7 PM to 8 PM. Dr. P.S. Chandramohan Nair (Founder Chair, IEEE-PES Kerala Chapter) kicked off the evening with the introductory speech. Er. Ajith Gopi, Vice-Chair, IEEE PES Kerala Chapter introduced the speaker for the day’s session Er. V.K.Joseph, Chief Engineer, Renewable Energy & Energy Savings (REES), KSEB Ltd. The session detailed about the utility photovoltaic plants and EV initiatives of KSEB Ltd. profoundly. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.Nafeesa K, Professor and Head , Dept. of EEE , MES College of Engineering Kuttippuram & Educational Activities Coordinator, IEEE-PES Kerala Chapter.

The penultimate session of the webinar series “Future Power Challenges: How the Public Sector Utilities are Gearing Up” was held on 29th November 2020 from 7PM – 8 PM. The session offered insights on the relevant topic “Roof-top PV Plants – Role of KSEB Ltd.” The introductory speech was delivered by Prof. Muhammed Kassim (Vice-Chair, IEEE Kerala Section, Chair Educational Activities,  IEEE Kerala section) and Er. Ajith Gopi, Vice-Chair, IEEE PES Kerala Chapter introduced the speaker of the day Er. Madhulal.J, Senior Project Manager, Soura Project, KSEB Ltd. Prof. Sunitha Beevi, Activity Co-ordinator WiP IEEE PES KC, Treasurer, IEEE Kerala Section concluded the day’s session with vote of thanks.

The closing session of “Future Power Challenges: How the Public Sector Utilities are Gearing Up”, the webinar series happened on 30th November 2020 from 7PM to 8PM. The final webinar on “Power Systems SCADA” was handled by Er. Harikumar K.P (Treasurer, IEEE PES Kerala chapter, Assistant Executive engineer, Transmission subdivision, Pala KSEB Ltd.). The speaker was introduced and welcomed to the session by Er. Ajith Gopi, Vice-Chair, IEEE PES Kerala Chapter. The final session of the event was concluded with vote of thanks by Dr.Boby Philip(Secratary, IEEE -PES , Kerala chapter).

The webinar series with KSEBL experts “Future Power Challenges: How the Public Sector Utilities are Gearing Up” offered the attendees with great knowledge being delivered to them by professionals with expertise in the fields. The session discussed rather unknown areas of the power and energy spectrum. The event saw a consistent attendance of participants varying from 70-80 participants throughout the event.
