Powering Kerala: An Insightful PES Day 2025 Webinar

On 24th April 2025, IEEE PES SBC JECC, in association with IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, successfully hosted a highly engaging online webinar titled “Powering Kerala: Introduction to its Electrical Grid” as part of the IEEE PES Day 2025 celebrations.

The session was led by Hari Kumar K P, Vice Chair of IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, who provided valuable insights into how Kerala’s electrical grid functions and stays energized. The event offered participants a comprehensive understanding of power distribution and grid management in the state.

Held from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Google Meet, the webinar attracted energy enthusiasts, engineering students, and curious minds alike. The initiative not only celebrated PES Day but also illuminated the minds of attendees by deepening their knowledge about the power systems that sustain Kerala.

The session was well-received and appreciated for its clarity, relevance, and real-world insights into energy infrastructure.

The IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter CCET Alappuzha, in collaboration with the IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, hosted an insightful Energy Management Awareness Programme, Urjja-Seva, as part of PES Day 2025. The event, funded by MDI, took place on 23rd April 2025 and focused on building a greener tomorrow.

The morning session featured a talk on “Carbon Neutrality” by Madhu Krishnan K, the Energy Conservation State Awardee of 2019 (EMC). In the afternoon, participants engaged in a hands-on training session on “Energy Efficiency Kit Development.” The event provided valuable insights and practical knowledge on energy management and sustainability.

As part of the PES Day 2025 celebrations, the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Kerala Chapter, in collaboration with IEEE Student Branch CECTL, organized an insightful Membership Development (MD) Session on 23rd April 2025 via Google Meet.

The session was led by Mr. Jes Gigo, IEEE PES Membership Development Coordinator (MDC) – Kochi Hub, representing the IEEE PES Kerala Chapter. He delivered an engaging presentation that introduced participants to the world of IEEE PES, emphasizing the benefits of membership and how individuals can grow within a vibrant, global energy community.

With a strong turnout of both existing members and prospective enthusiasts, the session highlighted the significance of unity and collaboration in fostering professional growth. Attendees explored avenues for involvement, leadership, and networking within IEEE, while also gaining clarity on the value IEEE PES adds to both personal and technical advancement.

Rooted in the powerful words of Henry Ford — “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is success” — the session echoed the spirit of teamwork and collective progress, making it a valuable addition to the PES Day 2025 lineup

IEEE PES SBC CET, in collaboration with IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, launched a Tree Plantation Drive as part of IEEE PES Day 2025 on April 22, 2025, in celebration of Earth Day. The initiative encouraged all IEEE PES Student Branch Chapters in Kerala to plant at least one tree on their campus and share a photo of their team with the planted sapling.

The Chapter Level Inauguration Ceremony took place at 10:15 AM at the Electrical PG Block, College of Engineering Trivandrum. Participants took a step towards a greener planet, contributing to environmental sustainability.

As part of PES Day 2025 celebrations, the IEEE PES Kerala Chapter proudly hosted Watt-A-Pitch, a unique online idea pitching competition held exclusively for IEEE PES Student Members. The competition, conducted over a 48-hour period through online submissions, provided a dynamic platform for students to propose innovative ideas under the theme: “Clean Energy, Smarter Grids, Better Lives.”

Designed to be simple yet impactful, the format required no live sessions or presentations — participants were invited to pitch their ideas by submitting through an online form. The competition encouraged a wide range of concepts, from renewable energy solutions to next-generation smart grid systems, focusing on creativity, feasibility, and potential impact.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from across the section, with students showcasing forward-thinking solutions to current energy challenges. Winners received recognition in the form of e-certificates, and the first-place winner was awarded a cash prize worth ₹3000 along with an e-certificate.

Watt-A-Pitch not only nurtured innovation and critical thinking but also reflected the spirit of IEEE PES — empowering young minds to contribute meaningfully toward a sustainable and smarter energy future.

The IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, in collaboration with IEEE PES SBC College of Engineering Perumon, hosted a Membership Development Session on April 22, 2025, at 8:00 PM via Google Meet. The session featured Fisa Fathima Feroze, MDC of the Travancore Hub, IEEE PES Kerala Chapter, as the speaker.

During the event, participants explored the power of IEEE PES Membership and learned how it can help them grow, connect, and make an impact.

The session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 𝟏𝟖 𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Er. Nithin provided 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐬, equipping them with the tools and strategies to effectively lead PES initiatives.

𝐀 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 was also launched as part of the session to boost outreach efforts.
